LABUAN BAJO TERKINI – Three students from the Catholic University of Indonesia Santu Paulus Ruteng have been selected as Language Ambassadors for East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT) in 2025.

The three students are Gregoria Wiwin Komaladewi, Wihelmina Tantri, and Remigius Supardi Goel. Before being selected as Language Ambassadors, they underwent a series of rigorous assessments that evaluated their academic achievements, public speaking skills, and language proficiency in Manggarai, Indonesian, and English.

“We truly prepared ourselves wholeheartedly because we are representing not only our university but also Manggarai culture,” said Gregoria Wiwin Komaladewi, one of the selected participants, May,3/2025.

The 2025 NTT Language Ambassador event was attended by five universities from the region, namely Nusa Cendana University, Satya Wacana Christian University, Widya Mandala Catholic University, and the Catholic University of Santu Paulus Ruteng.

As the only university from Manggarai, UNIKA Santu Paulus Ruteng sent five participants, all of whom have been actively involved in various organizations both on and off campus.

“I want to show that regional languages, especially Manggarai, have their own charm for tourism. Unfortunately, many young people today prefer using slang over local languages,” said Wihelmina Tantri in an interview.

She also added, Language is not only a means of communication, but also an important part of our cultural heritage.

The five participants from UNIKA Santu Paulus Ruteng are continuing their intensive preparations before competing in Kupang, where the NTT 2025 Language Ambassador contest will be held.

“With full support from the university and our mentors, we feel more confident to take part in this prestigious event,” stated Remigius Supardi Goel with optimism.

This event is not just a competition, but also a platform to strengthen the role of regional languages as cultural identity and to introduce the local potential of NTT to the national level.
